Last Week’s Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Layoffs Bring Year’s Total To 100

FishbowlNY has confirmed a new round of layoffs at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Multiple sources with inside knowledge of the situation said IT, art, production, editorial, and support staff at the MSLO offices in New York were let go last Wednesday. The next day, human resources personnel headed up to Massachusetts, according to our sources, where five ad salespeople were laid off at the Boston offices of Body and Soul magazine.

Company spokesperson Elizabeth Estroff confirmed that there were layoffs last week, but would not confirm which areas were hit and the total number of employees affected by last week’s cuts. Estroff did say that “over the course of the year, we’ve eliminated 100 positions across the company,” as MSLO has been “streamlining costs at the corporate and business unit levels throughout the entire year.”

What else changed with last week’s cuts?

The cuts last week coincided with another major change at Martha Stewart’s media empire: As the layoffs began last Wednesday, MSLO announced that CFO Howard Hochhauser had tendered his resignation after eight years at the company.

Since December 2007, there have been at least four
of layoffs at the company, including one in August that claimed 25 employees.
