Languages Of New York, According To Twitter [MAP]

Data analysts James Cheshire, Ed Manley, and John Barratt have created a very cool map depicting the most commonly used languages in New York, based on the ones used on Twitter.

The team visualized the geography of about 8.5 million geo-located tweets collected between January 2010 and February 2013, with language detected using Google’s translation tools.

Check out the map, and the numerical results, below.

According to Cheshire, Manley, and Barratt’s data, English is by far the most popular language in New York with Spanish taking the top spot amongst the other language groups.
