With almost 20 years under his belt at Emmis New York, Fred “Bugsy” Buggs has held nearly every position at KISS FM/WRKS, or sister station Hot 97/WQHT. Now, Buggs has been named assistant program director at KISS. He’ll report to PD Jay Dixon.
Buggs is a former midday air personality at Hot 97, who also did on-air shifts in various dayparts on KISS. Currently, he is producer of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, a position he will maintain. In addition, fans will still hear Buggs spinning the tunes during his own show Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“Bugsy has extensive knowledge about the market and its history, Dixon says. “…Bugsy is a well-rounded talent in all areas with great leadership skills, is committed to out mission and is the ideal person to solidify the KISS brand.”
Buggs arrived in New York more than 25 years ago. After working at stations in Florida, Washington, DC, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, Buggs returned to the Big Apple with more experience and knowledge. His expertise in production and artist development landed him a job with Def Jam Records where he worked with the likes of Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie.
“I’m humbled,” Buggs says. “It’s great to be on the management team for Emmis New York, a place I’ve called home for quite some time now and where I’ve spent most of my career. I’m looking forward to continue growth opportunities and bigger things to come with my KISS family and am just ready to win and keep the successes going.”
