King Launches Candy Crush Jelly Saga on Mobile

The third installment in the match-three franchise features new level types, including competitive boss battles.

King has announced the launch of Candy Crush Jelly Saga on iOS, Android and Windows. The game is the third installment in the Candy Crush franchise, and features match-three gameplay similar to that of its predecessors, with new level types and two competitive boss modes.

Candy Crush Jelly Saga includes 120 levels at launch, each with a different challenge to complete before running out of moves. For instance, one level may ask players to cover the board in jelly by making matches that include symbols on jelly squares. Other levels see players destroy frosting tiles to reveal and collect creatures called ‘Pufflers’ that are hiding underneath, and may move around the board between matches.

The game’s boss modes offer turn-based battles against computer controlled characters, and are based on these jelly and Puffler mechanics. To be specific, jelly boss levels see players compete against the Jelly Queen to cover the board in their own jelly before the queen can cover the board in hers. In the Puffler boss mode, players take turns competing against Cupcake Carl to collect Pufflers, with Cupcake Carl adding more frosting to the board on his turns, giving the Pufflers more places to hide.

If players fail to complete a stage before running out of moves, they lose a life. These recharge automatically over time, or can be purchased instantly with gold bars, the game’s premium currency. Users can also spend gold bars on additional moves when they fail a stage. The game is further monetized via premium power-ups, including the Lollipop Hammer.

In a statement, Tjodolf Sommestad, senior vice president of the Candy Crush franchise at King, commented:

We are very excited to be launching Candy Crush Jelly Saga, the third installment in the Candy Crush franchise. The Candy Crush franchise has been extremely popular around the world, and players have now been enjoying the games for more than three years. We are continually thinking of new ways to innovate within our games and bring different gaming experiences to our players. We believe that the competitive gameplay elements introduced here in the ‘boss mode’ levels offer a new challenge for our players and complement sister titles Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga extremely well.

Candy Crush Jelly Saga is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store, Google Play and the Windows Store.
