Kabam, WBIE Launch The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth on Mobile

Free-to-play games company Kabam and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced the launch of The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth on iOS and Android devices. The game mixes role-playing and collectible card elements, as users recruit more than 100 characters with special abilities in their quest to destroy the evil in Middle-earth once and for all. In The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth, players follow Gandalf’s guidance and choose to play as a Dwarf, Elf, Human or Hobbit. As players complete quests, they’ll “explore” the world by spending stamina, which recharges automatically over time. This is done by simply repeatedly tapping an explore button to move through environments, and user receive gold, XP and new heroes by exploring. When players come across battle encounters, actual combat takes place automatically, with the entire player team attacking the entire enemy team in turn-based combat. Players can fast-forward through these battles and jump straight back into the exploration phase of the game to save time. Outside of battle, players can recruit new heroes using Mithril (premium currency) or Summon Stones, another premium item. Over time, players will have the chance to recruit iconic characters from the universe of The Lord of the Rings, including Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas and Frodo. Frodo specifically is a free reward earned for logging into the game many days in a row. Each hero has their own attack and defense stats, as well as unique abilities, so users can mix and match their units to create the best army for combat.As players recruit “excess” or otherwise “lesser” heroes, they can spend these to upgrade their stronger units. These upgrades result in higher levels for the heroes themselves, as well as boosted attack strengths and hit points. Users can create up to three different teams of heroes, with extra team slots becoming available as players level up. Outside of the single-player campaign, players can fight Sauron's forces in team-based battles, or take their heroes into the player-vs-player combat arena. In future versions of the game, players will be able to explore new regions, including Eriador, Rohan, Gondor and Mordor. “The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth will thrill the millions of fans who are eager to once again live the action and adventure of their favorite franchise,” said Mike Li, co-founder and general manager of Kabam’s Beijing Studio, in a statement. “Our team at Kabam prides itself in designing mobile games that capture the essence of popular entertainment properties and creating an exciting game for players everywhere.” The Lord of the Rings: Legends of Middle-earth is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
