Julie Burchill Quitting Journalism

Brit journalist Julie Burchill has a colorful backstory. She started her career as a 17-year-old journalist covering the Sex Pistols in 1977 for the NME, defended Margaret Thatcher as a liberal columnist for the Sunday Times, founded the Modern Review with Toby Young and later got into one hell of an argument with Camille Paglia.

Now she’s quitting journalism. A television show based on her teen lesbian book Sugar Rush won an International Emmy. Burchill says she has been bitten by the TV bug, has projects lined up through 2008 and will not be returning to journalism as a result.

We’ll see.
