Public Memorial Set for News 12 Long Island Anchor Judy Martin

There has been an outpouring of shock, grief and speculation about the sudden death of 49-year-old News 12 Long Island anchor Judy Martin. Here are a couple of noteworthy, respectful comments left below Newsday TV critic Vern Gay's February 2 item: Greg Marcus: I am stunned beyond belief that Judy is gone. She was incredibly kind and supportive to me as a new writer and as a person. She spent an hour with me on the phone giving me suggestions in December. I am very new to the field of life balance, and to get the support and encouragement from someone established and in the media meant the world to me. While I was just getting to know her, I feel like I lost someone close to me. I can only imagine how hard this must be for those who were close to her. Please accept my deepest sympathies. surfergirl123: Judy was a one-of-a kind class act: spiritual, dedicated to her job but most importantly, to the society she reported to and about. She truly cared about people and it showed in her job and dedication to News 12. I used to hang out with Judy several years ago and in college together. She was an angel. She watched after others while on earth, now she will in heaven. You will be missed Judy. There is no one like you, you were indeed the Best! Deep down Judy was so spiritual and would want us all to believe that her spirit still surrounds us all. I believe her and I know, with all my heart, that someone as special as her has undoubtedly found peace. Untimely to us all, but perhaps where God intended her to be. A public memorial has been scheduled for Saturday, March 1 from noon to 2 p.m. at Brueggemann's Funeral Home in East Northport. FishbowlNY has confirmed that one and all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made to Arlington, VA non-profit Ashoka, which nurtures social change through the support of entrepreneurs. Although there is no dedicated page set up for Martin, donors can include in the "Notes/Additional Information" field mention that this is being made on Martin's behalf. Update (March 5): Judy Martin's sister Mary, via email, has given FishbowlNY the following update with regards to the cause of death: The medical examiner said the following words: “brain bleed, cause pending,” and that this is under the category of natural causes. We were told it would take many weeks to learn anything else, and also that we might never know the cause of the bleed.
