John Couric, Father to Katie, Former PR Exec, Dies at 90

John Couric, father of Katie Couric, has died at the age of 90 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Couric began his career as a reporter with the United Press wire service in the 1940s. He covered Georgia politics and then expanded across the South before going to the Washington bureau in 1951. He was an editor when he stepped down in 1957 to become a publicist.

He worked for a variety of organizations and associations during his career, and was writing speeches and articles for the Food and Drug Administration when he retired in 1985.

Besides working in PR, he also taught it as an adjunct professor of PR and journalism at his alma mater American University and the University of Maryland for 27 years.
