John Catsimatidis Opts for a Different New York Newspaper

CNG's sixth New York newspaper will launch in October with help from Catsimatidis' grocery chain.

This may be the unkindest paper cut of all for the beleaguered gang at the New York Daily News.

Remember John Catsimatidis (pictured), one of the taloid’s recent suitors? Well, he’s moved on to a different New York newspaper. As Mort Zuckerman embraces the Web, Catsimatidis is seguing to a much more old-school business model: the free community newspaper.

From Keith J. Kelly’s report:

The Manhattan Express is getting ready to debut in October from the Community News Group chain of papers, covering Midtown, the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side…

“The community newspaper business is a good business and this is one of the most vibrant areas of the city,” said Les Goodstein, head of Community News Group (CNG) and a former executive of News Corp.
