Joanne Lipman Is Named Editor in Chief of USA Today

She'll add that title to her chief content officer role

When former USA Today editor in chief David Callaway left the publication in June 2016 to serve as CEO of TheStreet, it was USA Today chief content officer Joanne Lipman who announced the news to staff while noting that Patty Michalski, then managing editor for digital, would serve as interim editor in chief as the publication conducted “a nationwide search” for Callaway’s replacement.

That search has led back to USA Today, with Lipman herself being named editor in chief, a role she will serve in as she continues her current duties as chief content officer of the USA Today Network.
