Jim Murray, arguably the best local columnist of all-time, was selected as the No. 19 greatest sports figure in Los Angeles, according to a Los Angeles Times countdown that kicked off this week.
The list started off as a Top 10 but the LAT decided to expand it to a Top 20 after receiving 1,712 ballots. Falling just short of the Top 20 was Los Angeles Kings play-by-play man Bob Miller, who was in the top five on several ballots.
The 1990 Pulitzer Prize winner worked for the LAT from 1961 to 1998 and was the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association a whopping 14 times.
