49-year old actor Jim Carrey is climbing the YouTube charts this morning thanks to a bizarre video in which he professes his love for 22-year old actress Emma Stone, stalker-style.  “Emma,” he says, “I just wanted to let you know that I think you’re all the way beautiful—not just pretty, but smart and kind-hearted.  And if I were a lot younger, I would marry you and we would have chubby little freckle-faced kids.”

Carrey posted the video on his website, JimCarreyTruLife.com, yesterday and it took off immediately, garnering nearly half a million views so far.  The rumors started flying immediately, with posts going up on blogs across the web announcing things like, Jim Carrey Gets Seriously Creepy On Emma StoneJim Carrey Really Wants To Do Emma Stone and even, Jim Carrey Apparently Wants To Bang Emma Stone.  In a tweet yesterday, Carrey said, “Yes, my msg to Emma Stone was a comedy routine and the funniest part is that everything I said is tru.”

My first thought when I saw the video was that it must be some kind of weird promotion for an upcoming film starring both Jim Carrey and Emma Stone.  However, an IMDB search only confirms that the two are not set to star in any upcoming films together and turns up a Fandango article about how weird Jim Carrey’s Emma Stone video is.  In the article, Erik Davis asserts that the video is Carrey’s attempt at winning back his audience, as he has “sort of lost himself these past few years.”  Davis writes, “Don’t let [this video] fool you—this isn’t Jim Carrey losing his mind and going off the deep end.  This is a carefully constructed video with some great comedic timing that was planned beforehand and promoted via a press release a few hours after it arrived online.  This isn’t Jim Carrey going insane—this is Jim Carrey trying to resurrect his career by attempting to harness the power of viral video.”

Carrey has succeeded in his attempt to harness the power of viral video for sure—he tweeted yesterday that there was so much traffic on his website that the site crashed temporarily—but did he achieve what he set out to achieve?  Only time will tell.
