Jets, Giants Performs Well in Weekly Top 30

The Jets may have split their first two games on the young season, but both games ranked high in the New York ratings.

The opener on ESPN’s Monday Night Football against Baltimore registered an eighth-place finish with 760,000 viewers and a 3.8 rating. The numbers reflect the ESPN opening night doubleheader.

But on Sunday, as the Jets defeated New England, the game reached number three (1.8 million/9.1) for the week, according to the Nielsen Company.

However, it was CBS’s late afternoon additional coverage that earned the top spot. The 30-minute time period saw a whopping 2.1 million and a 10.7 rating on WCBS.

Many of those viewers stuck around for 60 Minutes. The veteran newsmagazine was fifth for the week (1.2 million/6.1).

Meantime, the Giants and Eli Manning, despite getting blown out by the Colts and older brother Peyton Sunday night, notched the number-two position (1.8 million/9.4). Prior to the game, the final half-hour of NBC’s Football Night in America landed at number four (1.4 million/7.2). The 15-minute post-game show also scored big numbers on WNBC at number seven (780,000/3.9).

The game proved to be a great lead-in for the Mike Francesa hosted Mike’d Up (525,000/2.6).

WABC’s only ranked show in the Top 30 was Eyewitness News on two occasions, the highest at number 20.

An episode of Glee, at number 22, (512,000/2.6) was the only charted WNYW program. (Ironically, it was a week before the season premiere.)
