Former Florida governor, Jeb Bush, released his latest “Right to Rise” ad this afternoon, showcasing his Spanish-speaking capabilities. The ad has him sitting in busy warehouse, wishing “the entire Hispanic community around the country” a happy Cinco de Mayo.
Bush also salutes Mexico for having “bravely defended itself against foreign intervention” (referring to the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla against the French).
Bush, who has yet to officially announce his candidacy, stresses his “profound” relationship with Mexico — as his wife, Columba, was born in Mexico, his family “has strong ties with Mexico” and his “great respect and affection for our neighbors.” His “affection” has apparently been so strong that he once labelled himself Hispanic in a voter-registration app back in 2009 — which he would eventually be called out for by his son, Jeb Bush Jr., on Twitter.
