Is “Oprah” what’s ailing Grandma?

Apparently “Oprah” isn’t just bad for James Frey‘s health. B00005N7UV.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg07.jpg

Reuters reports that “Older women who say talk shows and soap operas are their favorite TV programs tend to score more poorly on tests of memory, attention and other cognitive skills.”

Of course, the jury’s out on whether or not there’s causality – and thus, whether class action suits can be filed against Ricki Lake for literally boring old ladies to death. But, the study says, the findings do point to some “association between TV choices and intellectual function.”

In other words, while Oprah may not be helping matters any, it might be just as true that you’re doing poorly on memory tests in old age because you were a dope in your youth, too.

But it gives us pause: Why even risk it? Let’s keep grandma off the “Jerry Springer” and crank up the “Jeopardy!”

We’ll take ‘Famous Flatulents’ for $100, Alex.
