Is Boston the Next Tech Hub?

During Internet Week NY, Sen. Chuck Schumer made his case for why New York would be the nation's next tech hub. With Boston's FutureM conference taking place September 12 through the 16, the conference creator, the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange (MITX), would like to make the case for why Boston is a candidate as well. "Boston is really going to emerge as the digital dominant city in the U.S.," MITX president Debi Kleiman told PRNewser. "We have both the art and the science of the equation." FutureM will feature events and discussions across the greater Boston area, many of the gatherings taking place at the companies that are hosting the events. Like many conferences (Internet Week NY and Social Media Week among them), the events are sourced and organized by the participants. The conference, in its second year, has also added a student component that has been organized by the students themselves. These participants have been sourced from the many top-notch colleges and universities in Boston. "We have some of the best scientists in the world thinking about technology and how to market it, and entrepreneurs thinking about marketing and new marketing techniques," said Kleiman, who credited the region with creating in-bound marketing and email marketing. She added that Boston has "mini-clusters of firms that specialize in creating personalized Web experiences," companies that specialize in analytics, big-name brands like Verizon and Google, and venture capital resources to match New York and California. This mixture provides a scene that's good for the PR industry as well as PR pros looking to advance their career.
