iPhone OS 3.1 Upgrade Not All Good News: Exchange Server Problems & No More Tethering

Apple’s iPhone OS 3.1 is not exactly smelling like roses. I watch my iPhone 3G upgrade fail. It required a reset and restore process that took a long time. And, why my configurations, photos, and apps were restored, all my media was deleted (as expected, of course) requiring me to move back music and videos. Fortunately, I didn’t have much media on the 3G.

And, here’s a pair of other blocking issues that have been reported:

TUAW: iPhone OS 3.1 now enforces Exchange encryption policy, may block pre-3GS iPhones

I don’t access my Exchange Server from my iPhone. So, I haven’t tested this issue. I may configure my iPod touch with Exchange to see if that has a problem though.

If you were using the relatively simple free tethering hack to use your iPhone as a wireless modem with your netbook or notebook, it looks like you need to look for an alternative (Verizon MiFi perhaps?).
