Interested In Food? Here Are 5 Twitter Accounts You Should Be Following

A lot of people get into the routine of following folks on twitter that are already ensconced in our tight circles or find and follow us, so we follow them back out of mere courtesy. In this new series, I’m going to showcase people from various backgrounds and industries to help you liven up your feed and get inspired! My aim is that by following people outside of your comfort zone, you’ll start to make art, or cook at home more or take that night course for small business management! This week, it’s all about food. 1. @MattArmendariz Matt’s tweets aren’t all food related, but they’re fun and irreverent and addictive. And that’s not including his blog Matt Bites, which is gorgeous as he’s a food photographer as well as writer. He writes about life as well as food, but it’s all pretty mouth-watering. 2. @sixy Sam Breach, a Brit living in Dogpatch, San Francisco, tweets in a rather sardonic fashion that I find comforting (“some people are just about as useful as a chocolate teapot.”). And her blog Becks & Posh is no different. She has a section on it called “English Food is NOT a joke.” It’s also the most fun way I know of to get to know the food of SanFran. 3. @TNSmackdown “Bake scones, or take a nap? these are the questions that plague me.” Oh, Michelle Weber, you’re funny AND you cook? Sigh. Your tweets of “pasta all'amatriciana, which means 3/4 of the kitchen will be coated in tomato and bacon grease splatters by a quarter after six,” makes me feel much better about the state of my kitchen when I’m cooking. You write “I seem to cook with a lot of fennel for someone who professes not to like it,” which I think it just one of the many dichotomies we face in the kitchen as both a cook and as a diner. Funny AND informative - yep, this girl has it all. 4. @4loveofcooking As much as those popular food sites with 20 photos of the process of making an angel food cake are beautiful, it can be a little bit much for those of us just trying to get some good healthy and tasty food on the table every night. For this, I look to Pam, who presents simple, yet interesting dishes (like Friday’s Artichoke Ravioli with Spinach, Tomatoes, Mushrooms, and Squash). There is a photo of all the ingredients you’ll need and then a photo of her finished product. Just enough info to get us motivated and through the recipe with success. Thanks for the helping hand. 5. @cathyerway The author of The Art of Eating In: How I Learned to Stop Spending and Love the Stove has a great collection of recipes that will keep your dinner menus from ever feeling like a chore. There’s Green Gumbo with Fresh Corn & Okra, alongside Shakshouka, with a little sprinkling of Napa Cabbage with Chili-Garlic Sauce and Szechuan Peppercorns. Drool. Her food knowledge and skills are incredible. Here’s just a small example: “For my last week in San Francisco, I went a little bit off the deep end, with food. I staged at two restaurants (Chez Panisse and Bar Tartine), took a cooking class, went to a supper club, volunteered at an Edible Schoolyard benefit called OPENEducation at the Berkeley Art Museum, and threw an epic dinner party on the boat.” Gulp. It’s time to step up your game.
