Instagram Will Soon Allow Users to Mute Accounts Without Unfollowing Them

‘A useful tool for managing complex social dynamics’

Instagram is testing a way for users to mute posts from accounts they follow without having to actually unfollow those accounts.

The Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing network said this feature—which it aims to roll out “in the coming weeks”—will make it easier for users to personalize their feeds, adding, “We’ve also heard it may be a useful tool for managing complex social dynamics.”

When a user mutes an account, he or she can still see that account’s post on its profile page, and they will still receive notifications about comments or posts that they are tagged in.

Accounts that are muted will not be aware that they have been muted, and users always have the option of reversing course and unmuting those accounts.
