Webby Awards: Steve Jobs Gets Honored, Full List of Winners (CBS News/techtalk) New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg was honored Monday with a Webby award for Lifetime Achievement for his work with the Bloomberg media corporation. The award was presented by Tumblr founder and CEO David Karp, who reminded the audience that if it wasn't for Bloomberg's contribution to financial technology, we wouldn't have found out the cost of Facebook stock shares until Monday. CNET Nearly a dozen celebrities, politicians and tech luminaries paid tribute to late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at The Webby Awards show. A video featuring president Barack Obama, former president Bill Clinton and others expressing admiration for Jobs, who died last October, was shown to attendees and streamed over the Web. The Verge Actor Richard Dreyfuss gave a strange and oftentimes discursive speech that began with a jab at Facebook and Google. "If you're going to take our privacy away from us, why don't you tell us something private about yourselves," Dreyfus said to an awkwardly hushed reception. "And if you're going to change our world, why don't you pay for it, because it's theft." USA Today Instagram won Webby Breakout of the Year, Pinterest took home a social media award, and Facebook scored the People Special Achievement for Social Change honor. After one of the most anticipated initial public offerings in history, Facebook’s 11 percent drop Monday prompted investors to fault everything from Morgan Stanley’s role as lead underwriter, to the company’s greed and the NASDAQ stock market. AllFacebook Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will follow in the footsteps of other notable tech CEOs and take a base salary of $1 in 2013, taking one step toward slashing his tax burden. CNBC reported that Zuckerberg will earn a base salary of $600,000 in 2012, up from $500,000 in 2011, and he also received a $250,000 cash bonus in the first half of 2011. The New York Times/Dealbook Facebook’s troubles could damp enthusiasm for a spate of companies set to go public in the coming months. It could also spur changes in the IPO process. Elections Prove Power of Facebook, Twitter (Syosset Patch) The Syosset, N.Y., 2012 Board of Education election was like no other for two reasons. The first and most obvious reason is that Syosset elected an 18-year-old high school student to the board for the first time ever. The second was viral trends and use of social media perfectly fit the candidate and the massive amount of young voters who helped elect him. Mashable Josh Lafazan used his website and social media, such as Facebook and live video service Spreecast, to bring together his nearby friends and neighbors under his campaign’s banner. On Spreecast, Lafazan engaged in face-to-face town halls with his soon-to-be constituency. iOS Warning Message Hints at FaceTime Over 3G (The Verge) We have another sign that Apple is considering expanding its FaceTime video calling service to 3G or 4G. An apparently new warning message, first spotted by iDevice, shows up if users try to disable 3G data while on a FaceTime call. "Disabling 3G may end FaceTime," it reads. KurbKarma Makes Car Parking Social (CNET) Social networking has finally come to the aid of drivers ceaselessly circling in hopes of finding a parking spot on Union Street or North Beach in San Francisco, Calif. At TechCrunch Disrupt, KurbKarma launched an iPhone app that could take the pain out of parking. Stephen Colbert Joins Reddit Gift Exchange for Troops (Mashable) Redditors serving in the U.S. Armed Forces are about to get a big thank you from the Reddit community. The social news site aims to pair users in the United States with members serving abroad in an official Reddit gift exchange for the troops. The initiative is part of a larger ongoing project, “redditgifts.” Study: Two-Thirds of Us Believe Revenge is Best Served on Twitter (AllTwitter) A new United Kingdom survey says that social networks are responsible for our need to exact revenge on our enemies. Of 2,000 people across the UK surveyed, 69 percent believe that Twitter and Facebook make it easier for the average Joe to settle a score with their frenemies. Spotify Launches in Australia and New Zealand (The Next Web) Only a couple of weeks after launching its much-awaited iPad app, Spotify has now opened its song-filled doors to Australia and New Zealand.
