Instagram Is Testing a Way to Invite Friends to Join Live Videos

The feature is slated for global rollout 'over the next few months'

Feeling lonely while livestreaming via Instagram Live? Worry not: You may soon be able to invite your friends to join you.

Instagram announced Tuesday that it is testing the ability for users to invite friends to join their Instagram Live broadcasts, with the intention of rolling the feature out globally “over the next few months.”

Here’s how the feature works for Instagram users in the “small percentage” test group:

Users can tap the new icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen while broadcasting via Instagram Live.

A list of users currently watching the livestream will appear, and tapping “add” will invite users on that list to join.

Once another user accepts, the screen will split into two, with the original user on top and the invited user on the bottom.

Viewers can still like and comment, as they would on any other Instagram Live video, and guests can be removed at any time or choose to...
