Instagram Hits 12 Million Users, Finds Success in China

App is downloaded once per second worldwide

Business is booming for social photo sharing app Instagram—especially in Asia.

During a talk at TechCrunch Disrupt Beijing yesterday, Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom said that the company now has 12 million users, which is especially impressive considering the fact that the app is only available for iOS devices (an Android version is currently in the works).

Meanwhile, Instagram’s efforts to appeal to an international market—the app was translated into 10 different languages shortly after its launch, including two simplified versions of Chinese—have more than paid off.
