Instagram announced three new features: Color, Fade and post notifications.
Wednesday’s update marks the first major additions to the Facebook-owned photo- and video-sharing service since last December, when it added five photo filters — Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Perpetua and Aden — as well as the ability to upload slow-motion videos, real-time commenting and the ability to adjust the perspective of photos via the adjust tool.
Instagram described Color and Fade in a blog post:
Use the Color tool to tint the highlights or shadows in your photo. You can choose from yellow, orange, red, pink, purple, blue, cyan or green to add a colorful flair to the moments you share. The Fade tool allows you to bring a quiet tone to your photos by softening colors.
Color and Fade are available as part of Instagram for Android version 6.19.0, which is available for download via Google Play, and Instagram said Instagram for iOS version 6.10.0 will be added to the iTunes App Store “in a few days.”
Instagram first announced post notifications last December, and TechCrunch reported that the feature was launched Wednesday to iOS and Android users, allowing them to receive push notifications when their favorite accounts they are following upload new photos or videos.
