Jason Howerton joins Independent Review Journal as a deputy editor on the creative team. Howerton joins IJR from TheBlaze, where he was interim managing editor.
“We all agree that Jason is a great addition and we’re proud to have him join us after all of the momentum he has built for the Blaze,” said Independent Journal Review founder Alex Skatell.
IJR politics editor Justin Green told FishbowlDC, “We’re really excited to snag one of the smartest writers on the social web. He’s proven over the last few years to have a knack for what Americans care about, and his independent values and voice are a perfect fit for our growing team.”
In a note posted on Twitter, Howerton explains his reasons for the move, citing the opportunity to “create compelling original content, which has always been one of my greatest talents and passions.” Howerton also describes his time at TheBlaze, where he “quite literally learned how to take over the internet.” He includes a story count from his almost five years there: 6,460. That’s the digital life for you. Howerton’s last day at TheBlaze is Sept. 16.
