Photographers were up in arms following the announcement that Google had acquired Nik Software, the parent company of photo-sharing iOS app Snapseed.
Snapseed, which Apple named the iPad app of the year in 2011, offers tap-and-swipe enhancements and filters for pictures taken on iPhones and iPads. Our sibling blog AllFacebook has noted that the purchase could rival Facebook’s acquisition of the popular photo-sharing site Instagram.
Explained Google vice president of engineering Vic Gundotra in a blog post, “We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone.”
Nik Software responded with an equally cheerful announcement:
