Consumers love brands they can relate to—brands that feel accessible and human, that they can easily connect with. Online video is a great way to humanize your brand and present yourself in a way that is easy for your customers to connect with. Last week, in an episode Creators Tip at ReelSEO, Tim Schmoyer and “viral video genius” Kevin Nalty aka Nalts offer up some great tips on how to use video to humanize your brand.
1. Put a face to your brand’s name
Kevin Nalty says, “I think it humanizes the company if you’ve got an actual person that’s in the content and also, more importantly, that they’re the person you can interact with.”
People have a hard time feeling comfortable interacting with a logo or brand. It’s only natural for us to want to interact with other humans and by putting a face not only to your online video initiatives, but to all of your social media interactions, you make it a heck of a lot easier for people to connect with you.
2. Overproduction is a no-no
If you don’t have a huge budget for online video, you’re going to love this! Forget all the expensive production and editing bells and whistles—viewers can relate much more to something simple than they can to a very polished video. Nalty says, “A simple vlog by someone at the company is worth a lot more than a commercial.”
Schmoyer also points out that the higher-end style of production isn’t as sustainable—if you are planning to make videos consistently then it’s going to be very time consuming and difficult to keep it going if you overproduce every video.
3. Don’t spend a ton of money to fake “authentic”
Schmoyer and Nalty point out that some companies go overboard trying to fake that authentic look to make themselves look edgy and raw. Don’t waste your time or money—just pick up a flipcam!
