She argued that blogging on the Huffington Post is equivalent to going on Rachel Maddow, Jon Stewart or the “Today” show to promote their ideas.
And, she said, there are plenty of people willing to take their place if they do.
“The idea of going on strike when no one really notices,” Huffington said. “Go ahead, go on strike.”
She’s probably right. No one will notice that all the indie voices have quietly gone away and what’s left are subsidized op-eds and dimwitted celebrities.
Note she says people will do it just for the exposure then claims no one will notice. It’s either one or the other. Or it’s just SEO (that’s Search Engine Optimization, for all you analog hangers-on).
The person originally calling for a strike was ArtScene’s Bill Lasarow. We asked Lasarow if he’s had much of a response. He tells FishbowlLA, “I have gotten a handful of emails from some that have or had already, or who have indicated that they feel taken advantage of without indicating anything else. One blogger got in touch to support Huffington and castigate our position.” He continues, “However I am making no active effort to reach out to HP bloggers; I’m busy with my normal work, and for the most part I would not know who they are.”
Yeah, it’s hard to get freelancers to actually strike for just that reason.
