This afternoon, Atlantic Media has announced the hire of Michael Grass as senior editor of its state and local brand – Government Executive. Well known in DC as a founding co-editor of DCist.com, Grass was most recently with The Huffington Post where he covered local DC, Maryland, and Virginia news. Prior to that, he was an editor at the Washington City Paper, managing editor of the New York Observer’s Politicker.com, and local editor of the Washington Post Express.

Atlantic Media Announces Hiring of Michael Grass as Senior Editor for Government Executive’s State and Local Channel
WASHINGTON, DC; May 29, 2014 – Tom Shoop, Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Government Executive Media Group, today announced that Michael Grass will join the division of Atlantic Media as Senior Editor for the new state and local channel of its Government Executive brand.
In April 2014, Atlantic Media announced its plan for more news and analysis city, county, and state government-specific.
Grass brings to Atlantic Media deep experience in reporting and editing in the state and local arena, and in launching digital news sites. Among career highlights, Grass was a founding co-editor of DCist.com, a popular city-focused news blog in the nation’s capital. He also served as a local editor for theWashington Post Express and as deputy managing editor of the New York Observer’s ambitious Politicker.com site, editing posts filed by reporters in 17 states and D.C. He went on to work as an editor at the Washington City Paper, and then to manage local news coverage in D.C., Maryland and Virginia for theHuffington Post.
Grass’s hiring comes one month after Atlantic Media announced thatGovernment Executive, its public sector management brand, is expanding its editorial coverage to include more news and analysis about and tailored for city, county, and state governments. Set to launch this summer, the state and local initiative will include digital and mobile offerings as well as events.
