How the AP Sees Things

The AP always runs a bunch of test files before an election or primary, and often includes dummy outcomes.

Here’s the one they put out last week for the Republicans:

    Ohio
    @Text.normal:11,214 of 11,214 precincts – 100 percent
    @Text.normal:Mike Huckabee 991,279 – 51 percent
    John McCain 599,950 – 31 percent
    Mitt Romney 156,945 – 8 percent
    Ron Paul 137,316 – 7 percent
    Fred Thompson 58,926 – 3 percent
    @Text.normal:Rhode Island
    @Text.normal:179 of 179 precincts – 100 percent
    @Text.normal:x-Mike Huckabee 26,118 – 39 percent
    John McCain 25,739 – 38 percent
    Mitt Romney 6,851 – 10 percent
    Uncommitted 4,215 – 6 percent
    Ron Paul 2,790 – 4 percent
    Alan Keyes 1,369 – 2 percent
    Hugh Cort 668 – 1 percent
    @Text.normal:Texas
    @Text.normal:5,232 of 8,279 precincts – 63 percent
    @Text.normal:x-John McCain 329,336 – 25 percent
    Mike Huckabee 306,582 – 23 percent
    Ron Paul 185,569 – 14 percent
    Uncommitted 138,541 – 10 percent
    Mitt Romney 93,376 – 7 percent
    Rudy Giuliani 79,467 – 6 percent
    Fred Thompson 65,700 – 5 percent
    Duncan Hunter 53,529 – 4 percent
    Hoa Tran 39,915 – 3 percent
    Alan Keyes 26,689 – 2 percent
    Hugh Cort 13,683 – 1 percent
    @Text.normal:Vermont
    @Text.normal:260 of 260 precincts – 100 percent
    @Text.normal:x-Mike Huckabee 19,331 – 42 percent
    John McCain 18,410 – 40 percent
    Mitt Romney 3,682 – 8 percent
    Rudy Giuliani 2,762 – 6 percent
    Ron Paul 1,841 – 4 percent

So Huckabee wins Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island.

Here’re the Dems:

    Ohio
    @Text.normal:11,214 of 11,214 precincts – 100 percent
    @Text.normal:Barack Obama 1,027,089 – 53 percent
    Hillary Clinton 878,250 – 45 percent
    John Edwards 39,077 – 2 percent
    @Text.normal:Rhode Island
    @Text.normal:179 of 179 precincts – 100 percent
    @Text.normal:x-Hillary Clinton 34,141 – 50 percent
    Barack Obama 29,436 – 43 percent
    Uncommitted 2,800 – 4 percent
    John Edwards 1,373 – 2 percent
    @Text.normal:Texas
    @Text.normal:4,997 of 8,279 precincts – 60 percent
    @Text.normal:x-Hillary Clinton 653,559 – 47 percent
    Barack Obama 584,993 – 42 percent
    John Edwards 56,167 – 4 percent
    Bill Richardson 48,659 – 4 percent
    Chris Dodd 28,000 – 2 percent
    Joe Biden 14,209 – 1 percent
    @Text.normal:Vermont
    @Text.normal:260 of 260 precincts – 100 percent
    @Text.normal:x-Hillary Clinton 21,633 – 47 percent
    Barack Obama 19,330 – 42 percent
    John Edwards 4,603 – 10 percent
    Dennis Kucinich 460 – 1 percent

So Barack wins Ohio but loses everything else.

How weird would it be if the primaries shake out even close to this?
