Ad nauseum, apparently.
Temple gave MSNBC’s Chris Matthews a Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award in 2005. He’s also a member of Temple’s Hall of Fame at the university’s School of Communications and Theater. He was invited to broadcast “Hardball” live from Temple’s campus in 2010.
But, oh no, that wasn’t enough. At Temple’s commencement ceremony this May, Matthews will be made an “honorary doctor of humane letters” (whatever that means). The rationale, according to university president Ann Weaver Hart: “Chris Matthews has distinguished himself as a broadcast journalist, newspaper bureau chief, presidential speechwriter and bestselling author. Through it all, he has been an enthusiastic advocate for the city of Philadelphia, its people and its institutions.”
So congratulations Chris! And a quick memo to Temple: Other journalists exist in the world.
