How Five Words Made One YouTuber A Legend [Interview]

"Wow! That’s like…a video!" If you’ve spent any time watching viral videos on YouTube in the last two weeks then you may have happened across a video of someone saying these five words. YouTuber itsaninterimweb has been tacking these words, in the form of video responses, onto virtually every YouTube video to go viral over the past couple of weeks. His channel consists of 179 videos so far, all of them proclaiming this same message. "Wow! That’s like…a video!" I had the opportunity to ask this mysterious video responder a few questions about who he is and why he’s doing what he’s doing. But before we get to that, check out a few of his videos below. I really like how he never says his catchphrase the same way twice. It must take a lot of hard work to figure out how to say "Wow! That’s like…a video!" nearly 200 different ways. And his hard work is paying off. He’s got over 300,000 upload views so far, and he’s only just getting started. So who is this guy and what is he doing? Check out my interview with the "Wow! That’s like…a video!" guy below. Social Times: Please introduce yourself. What’s your name, what do you do, that sort of thing… Let’s just go with Max. If you browse my comments you’ll see that it’s probably not wise for me to reveal my full identity. A lot of people hate me. Every time I refresh YouTube there are 10 more. Many of those comments assume I don’t have gainful employment, but I am in fact a small business owner in the Housewares industry. Sorry bros. How did you come up with the "Wow, that’s like…a video" video response campaign? Ray William Johnson (RWJ) and others I don’t need to name at the top of the YouTube subscribers chart do the same thing. They respond to the most popular videos on YouTube with inane comments and corny jokes. They add nothing to the original video and the entire point is to ride the wave of the video’s success. Unfortunately most of those guys really suck. I am of the opinion that I, on the other hand, am really pretty great. So I decided to do the same thing, and tell it like it really is. Which I always do in all of my videos. [Editors note: He really does. "Max’s" video descriptions always read, "I always tell it like it is."] What are you hoping to gain from these response videos (if anything)? RWJ earned over $1 million in a year, according to rumors that I heard on the Internet. I expect to earn at least twice as much as him in half as much time. In reality, I’m just hoping to become CEO of Viacom or maybe Time Warner based on my experience in "social media", which as I’m sure you know is the next hot stop in the advertising paradigm, which is ALWAYS shifting. It’s all about synergy and my energy is always synced to the beat of what’s poppin’ off on YouTube. What has the response been like so far, and are you pleased? Some choice comments: "I seriously want to punch this guy, he sounds incredibly annoying." "WOW, you are like… An IDIOT" "HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH" "You shaved." "Unsubscribing." "This is like… a comment" "You’re way classy. Never stop." There are better ones, but I can’t go searching forever. I cannot believe the controversy that has resulted from saying five words, all of them true. People simply can’t handle it when someone comes along and tells it like it is. And yes, I’m pleased.
