How Do Celebrities Use Twitter? Interview With @cookwithjopratt

Celebrities and stars in the food world use Twitter for a lot of reasons – promoting a new venture, to praise or complain about something, to share information, to spread news about a good cause. So I thought it would be fun to hear from the stars themselves about how they use it. Jo Pratt is a food stylist, writer, presenter and home economist in the UK. She is the former food writer for ELLE magazine, and has been Food Editor for GLAMOUR magazine for 4 years. Her books In The Mood For Food and In The Mood For Entertaining have been go-to guides since their release. With a BA honours degree in Home Economics, Jo’s experience comes from working with big name chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver and on everything from live cooking demonstrations to TV programs such as Hell’s Kitchen. However, her biggest fan must be Gary Rhodes. For over ten years, Jo previously worked on practically all Gary’s books and TV programs and they remain good friends! Jo’s experience has resulted in her recipes being featured in numerous places including Saturday Mail Weekend Magazine, Sainsbury’s magazine, Olive magazine and BBC Good Food magazine, to mention just a few places. Do you have any rules? Not to do the answer for the previous question. What do you use twitter for mostly - promotion, conversation, etc.? I use it for keeping on top of the zeitgeist and letting people know what I’m having for my dinner (with a link to my recipe of course). What have been some of the best tweets you've done? I love sending out recipes and getting feedback (good or bad) once people have tried the dish themselves. Any great stories you want to share? Ashton Kutcher started tweeting as a way to stop the paparazzi getting exclusive pictures of him out and about. He would take a picture of himself in a bar and tweet it to his millions. Any picture a photographer got was worthless – they soon left him alone. Whose tweets do you enjoy getting? That’s the beauty of Twitter, you never know what you’re going to get. The best name I’ve seen recently is for a guy (dectective) that tours the country reviewing burger bars – his Twitter name is @burgerac. Genius! How often do you tweet? From where (phone, home computer, etc.)? I go through stages, but I usually tweet on the days I work, which works out to be about six to eight times a week, using either my phone or laptop. What platform or social media dashboard do you use? Tweetdeck from my phone and Twitter on my laptop. Do you try to tweet at only specific times or is it more like, “whenever”? It is usually a spontaneous thing. Do you ever use Twitter as a procrastination tool? Yes, definitely. Will you be retweeting this interview? Yes, of course.
