    Michael Scherer is the Washington corr. for Befor that he was the Washington corr. for Mother Jones, an asst. ed. at the Columbia Journalism Review, an ed. fellow at Mother Jones, and an education reporter for the Daily Hampshire Gazette. Scherer has been published in Rolling Stone, The Nation, Best Life, NYC’s City Limits, Capitol Eye and Hampshire Life. He received his masters degree from the Columbia Journalism School and his BA from the UC Santa Cruz. But today he’s our Friday Feature:

    What’s your favorite political book and why

    A.J. Liebling’s “The Earl of Louisiana,” because to understand politics, one must understand the importance of dinner.

    What is your biggest weakness (and not your job interview biggest weakness)?

    Television. If I had cable at home, I would not sleep. If I had my PlayStation set up, I would dehydrate.

    What’s your favorite comfort food?

    On the road, custard pies at diners — coconut, lemon, chocolate, banana, doesn’t matter. As Special Agent Dale Cooper put it, “Harry, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it. Don’t wait for it. Just let it happen.”
