Hot 97 DJ Cipha Sounds Suspended Indefinitely for Haitian Remark

Hot 97/WQHT morning show DJ Cipha Sounds (real name Luis Diaz) is in hot water after an on-air comment he made on Friday.

Sounds said, “The reason I’m HIV negative is because I don’t mess with Haitian girls.”

Emmis suspended the DJ indefinitely. The company also is ordering Sounds to undergo “sensitivity training focused on the Haitian community and specifically, the challenges …faced in terms of the HIV epidemic.”

Hot 97 also says it will work with local community leaders to use the station’s influence to increase awareness of HIV and community programs to address the HIV epidemic.
