Highlights from the 9.7.14 Sunday Shows

sunday-shows_304Chuck Todd on NBC treatment of the ousted David Gregory on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” with Brian Stelter: “I don’t know everything that happened. I was more out of the loop than I think some people would like to believe. I know — I’ve learned in my seven years now in the television business: this is hard. This is a tough business.”

Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) on ABC’s “This Week” : “ISIS, at this point, is primarily focused on Iraq and Syria. I think the real threat from ISIS is the foreign fighters from the United States and other western countries that have gone to Syria to fight with them who then may come back. But they pose a threat more as lone wolves than as sort of any sort of organized plot. There’s no evidence at this point that ISIS is plotting and planning in the way that bin Laden was doing for 9/11.”

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger on CBS’s “Face the Nation” : “I think when an American is murdered on television for the purpose of terrorizing Americans, there should be a response that you cannot, you would not analyze in terms of a normal response to provocation. So something has to crystallize out of this violence and it won’t happen without our leadership.  We cannot do it all by ourselves.  But we can make clear that certain tactics will be strongly resisted.”

President Barack Obama on NBC’s “Meet the Press” : “The strategy both for Iraq and for Syria is that we will hunt down ISIL members and assets wherever they are.  I will reserve the right to always protect the American people and go after folks who are trying to hurt us wherever they are.  But in terms of controlling territory, we’re going to have to develop a moderate Sunni opposition that can control territory and that we can work with.  The notion that the United States should be putting boots on the ground, I think would be a profound mistake.  And I want to be very clear and very explicit about that.”

Former Massachussets Governor Mitt Romney on “FOX News Sunday” : “A strong America that stands up for its beliefs is an America able to defend itself and to defend our principles around the world. When America is seen and the president is seen as being weak, bad people do bad things. And you’re seeing that all across the Middle East. You’re seeing that was well in other parts of the world, including, of course, Afghanistan, Ukraine, it’s a real tragedy.”
