Highlights from the 9.21.14 Sunday Shows

SundayShows-w-candySen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on US strategy against ISIS: “Well Chuck, first of all, we have to recognize reality. And if you want to see what is going to happen in the future, you have to look to the past…I agree with President Obama’s goal that [ISIS] must be defeated. I’m just not seeing the strategy that’s actually going to work.”

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on the Friday night White House intruder: “We see this a lot. It happens frequently in other places where there are static security forces. And it’s just a matter of the Secret Service upping their game to make sure that they can maintain that every detail matters. A door locked, a quick reaction when somebody hits the fence and over the gate. I think they’re going to have reinstate some of these ongoing checks about what activities they participate in. And I’m talking about their self-audits on their security.”

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) on “FOX News Sunday” on the White House intruder: “This demands a full investigation, and investigation into what happened, why it happened, and what’s being done to make sure it never happens again. And I’m on the Homeland Security Committee, and I’m sure that Chairman McCaul will be holding a hearing as to what happened. And also, as to how the recommendations are being implemented.”

Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on ABC’s “This Week” : “Syria, in a way, is the embodiment of four different conflicts going on in the Middle East simultaneously. The first is Shia Islam versus Sunni Islam. The second is authoritarians versus reformers. The third is secularists versus Islamists. And then fourth is whether countries like Syria, Iraq and Libya that are comprised of historically adversarial ethnic groups, religious sects and so on, can hold together absent reposition or whether they will end up like Yugoslavia.”
