Mobile media-focused carrier Helio is teaming up with local search service Buzzd to provide updated listings of bars, restaurants and clubs to subscribers, MediaPost is reporting.
The new agreement will provide Helio subscribers with listings from entertainment guides such as Time Out, Citysearch and Flavorpill. The service will also let users post reviews of venues while they’re out and about, according to the article. This compares well with services like Ask Mobile GPS, which ties in to Yelp.com reviews on the go.
And since we always beat up on Helio, we’ll let MediaPost say it this time: “Helio needs all the help it can get. A joint venture of EarthLink and South Korean wireless operator SK Telecom, the youth-oriented mobile service has struggled to build a large subscriber base and stay in business despite an initial investment of $440 million.”
