Hearst Tower Scaffolding Collapses, Stranding Window Washers [Update]

Scaffolding that was being used by two window washers maintenance workers on the Hearst Tower has collapsed, leaving them stranded. CBS New York reports that the men are currently trapped near the building’s 45th floor. Hearst Tower is 46 stories tall.

The scaffolding began to fall around 2:40 pm. The window washers workers are in harnesses, on either side of the structure which is buckled in the middle. 57th St. at 8th Avenue is closed to car and pedestrian traffic.
