Happy Birthday Android!

November 5 is a significant for more than just Guy Fawkes Night, it also happens to be the birthday for Android. On November 5, 2007 Google announced Android and the Open Handset Alliance, which is a group of hardware vendors and providers who signed on to support Android. Almost one year later, on October 15, 2008 the first Android handset, the T-Mobile G1, began shipping to users, and in only a few years it has ascended to the top of smartphone operating systems and measured the percentage of today smartphones running Android.

Ironically, in only a few days after this milestone date for Android, Microsoft will reach a significant milestone of its own as Windows Phone 7 phones will be available for purchase on Monday, November 8.
