Driven to Distraction: Hands-Free is Not Risk-Free [Infographic]
At any moment, nine percent of all drivers are talking on cell phones. Studies show voice-to-text calls cause more distraction than texting by hand.
In recognition of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the National Safety Council put together this infographic to demonstrate how even hands-free activities while driving increase the risk of distraction, accident and serious injury.
A recent NSC poll found eight out of 10 drivers mistakenly believe hands-free devices are safer than handheld. But studies show that voice-to-text calls are even more distracting than texting by hand.
More than 90 percent of auto accidents are caused by driver error, and 26 percent of all crashes involve cell phone use.
