Social media and virtual worlds are overlapping more and more. Now leading kids virtual community Habbo is looking to accelerate that trend by cross-pollinating its audience with the worlds’ leading social network.
The Helsinki, Finland-based Habbo Hotel world—aimed at teens—announced that it has integrated its community with Facebook Connect. That means that Facebook users can join Habbo with relative ease by using their Facebook profile information. Plus, Habbo members can find other friends in the world via Facebook and share information about their Habbo activities with their Facebook friends’ circles.
Given the sheer size of Facebook (the site now claims over 300 million members globally)—the new integration could result in exposing the Habbo world to millions of potential new users. Currently, Habbo maintains communities in 31 countries and claims 15 million unique monthly users.
“Facebook makes it easy to find and stay in touch with friends, while Habbo takes playful real-time interaction and meeting new people to a completely new level inside Facebook,” said Teemu Huuhtanen, executive vp, marketing and business development at Habbo parent company Sulake Corporation. “Brands wanting to engage with our international Habbo communities will benefit from the increased viral effect.”
