Synergies between social media and virtual worlds are on the rise. Now, leading kids virtual community Habbo is looking to accelerate that trend by cross-pollinating its audience with the worlds’ leading social network.
The Habbo Hotel venue — aimed at teens — has integrated its community with Facebook Connect. That means users of the SocNet can join Habbo with relative ease by using their Facebook profile information.
Plus, Habbo members can find other friends in the virtual world via Facebook and share information about their Habbo activities.
Given the sheer size of Facebook (the site now claims perhaps 350 million members globally), the new integration could result in exposing the Habbo world to millions of potential new users. Currently, Habbo maintains communities in 31 countries and claims 15 million unique monthly users.
“Facebook makes it easy to find and stay in touch with friends, while Habbo takes playful real-time interaction and meeting new people to a completely new level inside Facebook,” said Teemu Huuhtanen, evp, marketing and business development at Habbo’s Finland-based parent company Sulake Corp. “Brands wanting to engage with our international Habbo communities will benefit from the increased viral effect.”
