9to5Mac has turned up a rather interesting security hole. Like they show you in the video above, you can use the iPad’s smart cover to bypass the security code. This means that if any apps are left open then using this flaw will give someone a chance to act nefariously on the email, Safari, or Twitter client. The opportunities for practical jokes are endless.
reportedly (has been confirmed by users and) only works on iOS5, which means that there’s a good chance that it’s true. I don’t mean to sound like I’m accusing them of making it up, but this security flaw is rather astounding. The iPad 2 launched 6 months ago. If this flaw had been there at launch do you really think it would have lasted this long unnoticed?
