Google Photovine App for iPhone Available. Where Are the Invitations?

The L.A. Times notes with, perhaps, some surprise that the Google Photovine app was launched first for the iPhone and not Android.

Google launches Photovine app for Apple’s iPhone, not Android

My guess is that Google will integrate Photovine into either Android’s bundled Gallery app or the Google+ app. So, what exactly is Photovine? Here’s the description Google provided on its iTunes App Store product page: Photovine is a fun way to learn more about your friends, meet new people, and share your world like never before. It all starts with what we call a photovine: a group of photos around a single, shared caption. Start a new vine with a photo and caption of your own or add your photo/take on someone else’s vine.

Will the activity of taking photos for the purpose of associating them with a shared theme (caption, vine) take off? We’ll have to wait until Google starts providing invitations to find out. The app is available. But, so far, I have not heard of anyone I know getting an invitation.
