Google is consolidating its work in 2011. It shut down Google Labs and a number of experimental projects under its umbrella. One of the project casualties is App Inventor for Android which lets non-developers quickly prototype mobile app ideas using web-based graphical programming tools. However, this project has a happy ending and a new beginning. Google is providing seed funds to the MIT Media Lab to continue the project.
It is not clear what path the project will take under the Center for Mobile Learning. It is, however, obviously good news that this valuable learning tool will not fade away.
