In a chat today at Washingtonpost.com about kidnapped reporter Jill Carroll, Jackie Spinner, former Baghdad correspondent and author of the forthcoming “Tell Them I Didn’t Cry,” explained why reporters still want to go Iraq:

“Journalists want to go to Iraq for the same reason we go to any conflict–to see for ourselves, to listen, to record the truth. This is often a very difficult thing for non-journalists to understand, how the quest for truth can take us to some of the most dangerous places in the world.
