You’re not going to believe this, but a Gallup Poll found that Americans’ trust in the media has hit an all-time low.
The study found that only 32 percent of people have “a great deal” or “a fair amount” of trust in the press. That’s an eight percent drop from last year and the lowest since 1972, when Gallup began tracking confidence in the media. We swear on our grandmother’s grave!
Unsurprisingly, those who identify as Republicans (sorry about Trump!) had the lowest confidence in the media. GOP-ers’ trust in the media dropped from 32 percent in 2015 to just 14 percent this year.
“Before 2004, it was common for a majority of Americans to profess at least some trust in the mass media, but since then, less than half of Americans feel that way,” reported Gallup. “Now, only about a third of the U.S. has any trust in the Fourth Estate, a stunning development for an institution designed to inform the public.”
