Gabbing Over the Back Fence

As if the first 4,000 journalists weren’t enough, the D.C. media world is getting more crowded next month with the launch of BackFence.com, a new “hyper-local” journalism project. J-Log today has a Q&A with creator Mark Potts in which he explains his vision for BackFence.com:

we believe Backfence can be a complement to existing media. We get asked all the time if we’re competitive with daily newspapers. No, not at all, because we think we cover the “last mile” of local, neighborhood information that traditional journalism often can’t get to because of cost, infrastructure, space, etc.

As Potts told Fishbowl today, BackFence is set to launch in McLean and Reston on March 31st. We have some recommendations of advertising campaigns they shouldn’t pursue.
