FTC Won't Delay Implementing Updated Children's Privacy Rules

Six months to come into compliance with Coppa is 'adequate'

Websites and mobile apps directed to kids under 13 won't get any extra wiggle room to come into compliance with new digital privacy regulations. The Federal Trade Commission voted unanimously to keep the July 1 implementation date for the updated Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau, the Application Developers Alliance and 18 other organizations last month requested a six-month delay, arguing that there was insufficient time between the FTC's release of its FAQ guidance and the July 1 date to figure how to execute the rules.
