Kleiner Perkins’ iFund Companies Are Pulling in $250 Million in Annual Revenue — At a CEO summit yesterday, the venture fund said that the 25 companies its funded through the iOS-focused iFund will see about 300 million downloads this year. The $250 million projection for 2011 revenue is interesting. We would suspect that the big contributors would be Zynga Mobile, ad network inMobi, GOGII, Groupon’s mobile division and Shazam.
FlyScreen Expands Into Japan for Android — According to the folks over at TechCrunch, developer Cellogic has partnered with Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. Through the partnership, location-based company Brilliant and NTT DoCoMo will bring Cellogic’s product, FlyScreen— an interactive replacement for the standard smartphone lock screen — to Japanese Android users.
Activision-Blizzard Expresses Interest in iOS — In talking with Eurogamer, World of Warcraft designer Greg Street of Activision-Blizzard spoke on the company’s interest in iOS. Street states that it’s not something that is going to happen soon, but goes on to say “if we could make the right game changes to make [it] work, it’s something we’d be interested in.”
PayPal Reports $10 Million in Mobile Payments a Day — PayPal has increased its estimate for total mobile payments in 2011 to $3 billion, marking the third time it has changed its estimation due to rapidly growing mobile payment usage. In fact, the sheer volume of this “total payments volume” (TPV) is noted at $10 million a day.
China Mobile to Offer iPhone — According to The Shanghai Daily, Apple is likely to release its a 4G version of the iPhone in China through China Mobile, the country’s largest wireless carrier. Apple has already teamed up with smaller Chinese carrier, China Unicorn. As it stands, China hosts 910.1 million mobile phone subscribers, 73.8 million being 3G subscribers.
Apple Files Lawsuit Against Samsung — Apple is filing another lawsuit. This time, it is a patent suit against Samsung Electronics, and was filed in a Seoul Central District Court, says Bloomberg. Though specific details on Apple’s claim are not provided, MoneyToday states that is over Samsung’s Galaxy S allegedly copying the design of the iPhone 3.
Local Mobile Ads Will Make Up 70% of All Mobile Ads — A recent report from BIA/Kelsey has stated that mobile advertisements in the United States are expected to be worth $4 billion by 2015 (the value was $790 last year), says PaidContent. Of that growth, 70 percent, or $2.8 billion, is expected to be derived from targeted, local advertisements.
iPhone Outweighs Android in European Survey — BGR is noting the early findings from Yankee Group’s 2011 European Mobile User Study. Of the over 7,000 individuals polled, 40 percent stated that their next smartphone purchase would be an iPhone, while 19 percent opted for Android. 17 percent and 15 percent were more interested in BlackBerry and Nokia smartphones respectively.
